We use LATCH because the nurses liked it. RN's are required to LATCH a baby
at least once per shift - requiring that you observe a feed! (That's the
part I like.)
I often remind them (actually, they remind me) that a chair could get a 3/10
(comfortable, not much helped needed with hold).
If score is <8 after 24 hrs, or <9 at 36-48 hrs, extra consult is
automatically triggered. (I work as lc 2x/wk, see all brfdg moms those days.
Small community hospital.)
The efficacy of this tool depends completely on the willingness of nurses to
take it seriously. I do find that nurses have a much better idea of who is
nursing well and who isn't, and they can tell me what is going on.
