I received a phone call from a breastfeeding mother of a 2-month old baby. She has recently returned to work and is pumping. She was doing well until a few days ago when she experienced a significant drop in supply from one breast. She was pumping 2-4 ounces per breast and while the one side remains normal, the other side is producing 1/3 oz at most per pumping session. She denied breast pain, lumps, fever, or nipple changes. She started on the progesterone only pill a few weeks ago. She also has started a nutritional program from afterbaby.com. She is taking Fenugreek and pumping often. Baby is latching well to both sides but takes twice as long to nurse from the suppressed side than previously. I'm thinking of sending her for a breast ultrasound out of concern for some pathology. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help.
