Anne,
If you just get a "serious" or "stable" report and that is the hospital's
policy to give that out to any caller, that is certainly ok.  And I am
not disputing the fact that if you are in a continuing working
relationship with this mother that you do indeed need info. But it is
best to get the report from the parents, IMO or to get permission from
the parents that you can call and follow the baby's progress. In my
experience as an nicu nurse, we did not give info out without the
parent's permission. If the parent's give their permission, then that is
fine. What do others feel is appropriate?
