So....it is not just the USA that needs intensive bf care!
I would definitely express and spoonfeed those first sleepy 24 hrs. It just
decreases the risk of formula use, bottle use, and IMO helps the mother's
milk supply and often rouses the baby to better feeding.
Two suggestions:
1. reach the moms prenatally if you are not already doing so, it helps some
for them to have the right info before their hosp expereince.
2. since you are alone in caring for all these moms, could you do a group
session everyday where all the moms come together with their babies in a
group teaching/support session?
