Re: << The last time I talked with the nurse on Saturday she said that the mother
had been put on 3 or 4 different antibiotics. One of which was for herpes.
The mother got very angry and refused to take it-asking the nurse just how
she would get that while in the hospital?? Good question!>>>>>>>>>>>

I'm thinking that the drug "for herpes" is an antiviral which will help
protect this lady whose fragile immune system needs all the help it can get. I
had a bout of Epstein Barr virus and was prescribed something similar. I don't
think I'd refuse any of the meds prescribes as there are very good reasons
they are being given. >>

I agree with the response re: "herpes" med. However, I never understand why HP don't provide the rationale for whatever med, treatment, procedure, etc. they've ordered, are administering, etc. The doc and other HP caring for this woman should be able to explain the rationale if BF truly is contraindicated. (The mother and the BF support persons should NOT have to try to get into a doc's head.) The nurse and the mother's doc should be able to easily explain why a "herpes" med is prescribed.

I can only imagine the fright this woman is living with. How much worse it would make it to be treated without explanations to help make sense of it all.

Karen
