Dear Dr. Mimi, a urologist explained this to a mom and me a few weeks ago.
Said the vessels grow rapidly after the first week or so, causing more
blood loss than in the immediate newborn period.  I don't know if he is
physiologically correct, correct, but it sort of made sense. Sincerely, Pat
