Apropos our recent threads on does milk stain (which led to my post about
the MICAM, and then to Pam Morrison's question about using the MICAM as a
diagnostic tool) and on retained placenta, Dr. Sharron Humenick emailed the
following:

"Marianne Niefert told me of a women ...it turned out that she had retained
placenta. Once the placenta
fragments were removed, the milk came in. Thus perhaps, the MICAM can be
used in
the way you suggest. I think from Peter Hartman's research that there is
only a
certain amount of colostrum at birth. My research shows that the more
minutes the
baby is at breast, the faster the milk matures. So if the baby nurses
frequently
and adequately or the mother pumps and still the milk does not mature--I
would
suspect retained placenta fragments as a working hypothesis. Sharron
Humenick"
