In defining it European history or not, I think not only the origing of the firm is a factor, but even more so is the origin of the boycot. Where did that start? Was that an European initiative?
On the other hand, it is a very European topic if you include the history of European dairy industry and the agressive funding by the (ancestors of) the European Union and the following agressive marketing for European dairy products. Then the other European formula manufacturers become a factor as well, especially Numico.

Heather LaRosa <[log in to unmask]> wrote: My 15 yr old daughter is in an honors European history class. She has to write
a term paper six pages in length as part of the course on something of
Euoropean history. her teacher says it can be as recent as this year to make
it history. She is an activist minded child, like her mother :o) and would like to
do it on the Nestle Boycott, but when she submitted the idea her teacher was
not sure this was relevant to European history. From what we read, Nestle
did originate in Switzerland, so that alone should make it qualify. There is also
tons of info out there on Nestle in the UK. She did explain the nestle boycott
to her teacher, and got an "If you say so" type of response.
In your opinion, is this a relevant piece of european history? I love that she
wants to do this, and love the idea of opening the eyes of a few of her
classmates and her teacher, but would hate to see her get a poor grade bc its
not relevant. If anyone would like to share their thoughts, I would appreciate
it.
Thank you,
Heather
