Peers,
I am finalizing a column addressing the breastfeeding surgical patient. Does
anyone have any myths, innovations, ideas or suggestions you have found in
this patient population (pro's or con's)? The column will address a lot of
the myths/orders/incorrect suggestions (including medications and
breastfeeding) given to the mother as previously identified in article
reviews and patient feedback. Allowing the mother to breastfeed (ideally) or
utilize a hospital grade breastpump as close to surgery start and completion
of surgery (as soon as she is awake) is also addressed. The article will
hopefully assist the AORN members with research based, lactation suppportive
care to this population. Thanks!
