Dear all,

This morning, I did a consultation for a mom with a two and a half month old baby, who has had some 12 or 13 cases of mastitis.
This evening, around 10.00 pm (it.s 0.03 am now) she phoned me, in tears... another one had shown up this afternoon... :-((
They always come in the same, left breast and the situation deteriorates very fast, from no symptoms to bright red and a lot of pain and fever.
Taking antibiotics or not doesn't seem to make a lot of difference for her physical healing and she apparently gets no abscesses.
Homeopathy so far has not been able to definitely solve the issue.
There is a tiny little painful spot on the left nipple, but it seems to be too small to cause so much problems.
It is not impossible, though, that this spot has something to do with the inflammations.
I could give more details, but that would make this a long list.
Is there someone among you with a super-suggestion to help this poor mom?
I'm thinking of lecithine, mainly, and of an ultrasound to get a view of the interior of the breast.
Any other useful ideas? She considers drying up her left breast and feed with the right one.
She'd rather solve the problem, however, and so do I. I really commend her for her persistence.
Thanks in advance for thinking along with me.

Warmly,

Marianne Vanderveen IBCLC, Netherlands
