Happy Day after IBCLC Day and Happy Women's Day!

Did anyone else receive an email to fill out a survey for IBCLE? It was
about how we think the organization is going, and our own vision for the
future of it. It was pretty short; not mulitple choice.

It was interesting. I gave my personal opinion, including how I think that
LC profession is becoming to medicalized, and to Western - out of the grasp
of those in developing countries and those in low incomes in the West. I
fear LCs will all have to be RNs or CPMs, or other medical professional
prior to writing.

For me, I'm an Aboriginal Midwife, not a Registered Midwife, in Ontario
(Canada). I wonder how that would qualify me or disqualify me if it does
become an organization of only health professionals. As I've seen with
students in our small school at the Birthing Centre, being good
academically does NOT make you be good with people.

Celebrate womanhood today - we are a strong group...I think that's what I
love best about my profession. I have no sisters (just 2 older brothers) -
being 'with woman' the past 8 years I find the part of my job that brings
me the most happiness is watching women (girls in some instances) grow,
gain their own strength, find their voice, and fall in love with themselves
and their babies. That transformation is outstanding. My midwife was the
first person to mirror the strength I had - I saw myself as a weak before.
She helped me to see what was inside of me and I honour her for that. She
truly changed my life. Thank you, Leslie - where ever you are now!!
