Hello everyone,
I have posted a question on this before but did not really get a good clear
answer. So, if anyone was has any info on this or resources I would love to
hear them. I have had a few mothers tell me that they started pumping before
the baby was born so they would have milk when the baby got here, and were
successful. My question is, does this milk contain what the newborn needs?
How would the transition from colostrum to mature milk happen? Would the
baby still get the same benefits from the colostrum immediatly following
delivery? Sorry if this is showing my ignorance, but this really puzzles me and I
have not been able to find any info. Of coarse I understand the risks
associated with pregnancy here and would never suggesdt this. I have had a
few nurses ask my opion and I don't have one. Because, if this really does
work I'm sure more mothers at the end of thre pregnancy 38+ weeks and on
would love to try this. Not only for the kick start on labor but for the head
start on milk production. I realize it is necessary for the placenta to deliver to
open the receptor sites for prolactin... So this is my confusion!

Thank you,
Brandi Thomas, RN,CLC (waiting for Oct.19th)
