I just wanted to mention that patients are NOT charged
for LC services at my hospital, and we do rounds 6
days a week on the floor. We are paid through the
nursing department, because we supplement and relieve
the nurses of some of their responsibilities,
including some of the patient teaching. Even the
outpatients we see are not charged. The mothers in
the two outpatient mother's groups we see pay a small
amount, and even that is looked on as a "donation",
and is easily waived for anyone who can't afford it.

You might look for grant funding with March of Dimes,
or perhaps the hospital itself has a foundation or
volunteer group associated with it that can provide
funding.

Of course, you can move to New York state, where, I am
told, every hospital is supposed to have an LC on
staff.

Congratulations to all the new IBCLCs.

ark today!
