I do defer to the pediatrician, however I think I would do a much better job
of discussing the pros/cons of the various formula brands and types of
formula (powder etc). Usually the pediatrician just uses whatever formula
that the WIC program is contracted to that year (USA supplement program). At
our hospital, this year they are using Sim Advance for formula fed babes and
Isomil for bf babes who are breast/bottle (aaarrrgghhh!) or who require
supplement for whatever (usually lame IMHO) reason.
What you could do is present some info to your mgr about the chief concerns
of formula (side effects of the new formulas - diarrhea), concerns about
phytoestrogens in soy etc. You could state that you have concerns from a
risk management point of view about staff recommending formula. State that
you suggest she put out a memo that staff should defer to the primary doc.
