We have a mom who's baby is in our NICU. Mom had sudden nipple pain
about two weeks ago. She was given Lansinoh, which didn't help. The
baby's mouth was clear, and the idea of possible candida was put on the
backburner until baby had a yeast-like rash on his groin two days ago.
Mom is now on nystatin cream, and baby is also being treated orally. The
staff threw out 2 weeks worth of mom's milk (OUCH!!) because the
breastfeeding counselor at the OB's office told them it was probably
infected with candida.

I am wondering if anyone on the list has any data or research
indicating that it is safe to continue freezing milk when a couplet has
thrush? I know have seen a few posts in the past indicating it is OK,
but the physician will want to see any research-based evidence.

Thank you,
Brenda Phipps, BS, IBCLC
