Jan,
Another IBCLC here in my area told me that she has had experiences with
Ibuprofen in nursing moms that tend to 'hold' milk in the breasts and cause
plugging and mastitis. This usually occurs in my clientele after a c/s and
they get home and begin to engorge. I've had calls from moms who are doing
all the right things with warm, wet compresses, showers, massage, pumping,
trying to get baby latched on, to no avail. I suggest they try Tylenol, the
milk begins to flow. I don't know what goes with Ibuprofen, but it
sometimes seems to have this effect.
The doctors at this facility send C/S moms home to take Ibuprofen around
the clock...unfortunately, and I do get these kinds of calls sometimes.
Have her try Tylenol and see if that doesn't work. Let me know, if you
can. I'm just trying to gather more anecdotal stories about this med.
