I (tongue-tied still at age 59) just had a tooth extracted and wish I could
nurse - almost two weeks out and the terrible dental architecture I have as
a result of my tongue tie continues to plague me. (Actually suddenly better
today but the bone shaving and sutures holding together the gum tissue were
real killers this time.)
Since I was in the chair 90 minutes (!) my dentist and I had a
"conversation" about tongue tie. I told him the literature said something
like 3% of the population is tongue-tied. He started laughing and said he
thought it was probably closer to 73%, that tongues are as individual as
noses, and one of the reasons people who get braces need to get them again
is because we don't clip frenulums when we need to, and the tongue re-frames
the dental arches again even after braces.

This is the same guy who recoiled in horror when I asked about frenotomies
twenty years ago.

Glad to see the AAP article, so good that we are seeing more practical info
every week on this topic!
