I apologize for the multiple copies of my post about the pre-schooler
cruising town with a nipple shield. How embarrassing.

Yes, it's sad and true that breastfeeding duration is very short in the U.S.
I think that it probably has more to do with being a bottle feeding culture
than giving bottles per se.

I think that because we are a culture in which bottle-feeding is the norm,
when breastfeeding is difficult, it is easy to slip into what seems normal.
I know that many people that I respect greatly do not use bottles in their
practice for that very reason. I think that Dr. Jack is one such person.
Dear Lactnetters,

I wonder about everybody else. Are other people using bottles when
breastfeeding is not going well, and transitioning to the breast?
Personally, despite use of the SNS myself and professional experience with
SNSs, cups, feeding tubes and syringes, I still find more parents opting for
bottles. Most of my clients who try alternative feeding methods other than
bottles grow weary of them quickly. I would like to hear how others keep
moms enthusiastic about other methods.

Looking forward to hearing!
