Hi

I have just rejoined lactnet and have a question. I received a call from a
woman this morning. She is a 41 year old woman who underwent lumpectomy
earlier this week. They removed a golf ball sized amount, but actually lump
was quarter size. Dr did everything he could to keep things intact, but did cut
through a few ducts to get to lump and removed one duct altogether. Nipple was
not removed. The type of cancer she has is DCIS. She does not have children
but still would like to have one and would like to breastfeed. They are
recommending radiation and she has been told that if she does not have
radiation, she will most likely be able to breastfeed on the effected breast
but if she chooses radiation, then that likelihood is reduced to less than
half. She is trying to decide to have radiation, but wants to know if anyone
knows anything more about this. She has also been told that this sort of
cancer often comes back during pregnancy due to increase of hormones. Any
information would be helpful. She needs to make a decision by Tuesday.

Thanks

Joylyn
