Sam Oddie (neonatologist) and I looked at the literature on this in a paper 
we did a few years ago, of course there may be new literature.

Digest 12, 296-300. 

I seem to remember there should be some posts in the Lactnet archives, too.  
I just tried 'newborn weight loss' and a large number came up, you would 
have to trawl through and think of some more search terms if you don't get 
what you want.
