I hope the cat is confined for the required 10 days, newest Red Book says
the cat will become ill within 4-5 days. At the first sign of rabies in a
confined animal Rabies IG and vaccine should be initated. Rabies can be
found in domestic cats, but I think it is sort of rare.
The mom should be in contact with her public health department (they
have info on # of rabies cases in area etc.) and she can call the CDC (24
hr 1-404-332-4555) or Div of Viral & Rickettsial Diseases 404-639-3574 <
www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvrd/default.htm/> I couldn't really find anything
specific re: BF by mom exposed to rabies :-( Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
