Sorry I didn't explain who Dr. Phil was in my original post. Yes, he is
host of a National TV show in the U.S. (and seen in Canada, Australia, etc).
He is a psychologist and got his start on the Oprah show.

He is known for his "down-home common sense", but in actuallity seems to
bully and coerce his guests to come round to agreeing with him.

Kate Hallberg, a frequent Lactnet poster, was a guest on his show several
years ago, to talk about extended nursing. She had to frame her position as
a "problem that she needed help with" in order to get on the show.

As you can see with his promo blurb for the NIP show, any person who wants
to get on the show, will have to show that NIP has caused conflict in their
lives. I agree that he will be anti-NIP, and I predict that he will either
hand-pick the kind of guest he wants, and/or he will "bully" the guest and
audience to put forward HIS point of view - which from the blurb provided,
looks like he thinks that NIP is inappropriate. (ditto to Phyllis's
previous comments on Dr. Phil being a bully)

However, someone WILL be picked to be on the show. The more we can increase
the odds that the person picked is articulate and well-informed on the
topic, the better the image for NIP that will be portrayed. I would
encourage such persons to apply. I'm sure Kate will be willing to give her
2 cents worth on her experience on the show.

On the whole, I do believe that this topic being addressed is a good thing.
At least we are talking about the issues around NIP, and we are on the map.
The issue may be dealt with in a very primitive manner, but it will get
better.

(after trying to explain "The View" nurse-in to people, I found out how many
people don't know anything about daytime TV. I can try to explain the
potential TV viewing choices of someone home during the day, and bridge that
cultural divide!)
