When moms worry about their older babies who still only dabble in solids, I
tell them about Lacie. Lacie was a much-reported-on little girl who
couldn't handle *anything* but breastmilk - not even vitamin drops - until
she was 3 years old... 5...7...

A picture of her at age 8 shows a chunky girl who looks "overbuilt" - a
result of all those years of growth hormone. She had jaw problems because
she never chewed. The hope was that the hormonal changes of puberty, along
with immunosuppressants, would allow her to eat solid foods.

At some point she became unable to handle frozen milk, so fresh milk was
flown in regularly. But sure enough, at some point around puberty she
began tolerating some solids, and had her first school lunch at something
like 12.

A picture of her at something like 15 (I have the numbers here somewhere.
Lois Arnold, are you listening? Can you be more precise?) shows a slimmed
down, lovely young woman. At that point she was learning to fly (all those
years of watching the planes...) and getting some college credit for it. I
believe she continues to have health problems, but that they're related to
whatever problems caused her intolerances to start with. (Lois??)

Can a baby last until 18 months or 2 years on almost exclusive
breastfeeding? I'm sure Lacie thinks so.
