I am way behind on reading Lactnet this week, but I wanted to respond
to the discussion a few days ago about Midwestern (USA) milk banks.
Wisconsin currently does have a Milk Depot and is working with the
Mothers' Milk Bank of Ohio. Contact information for the Mothers’
Milk Association of Wisconsin: 600 N. 8th Street, Mt. Horeb, WI
53572, (608)333-4955, [log in to unmask]

See the web site at http://www.freewebs.com/mothersmilkwisconsin/ for
more information.

Milk is collected in Wisconsin and is flown by Angel Flights to
Columbus, Ohio, where it is processed by the Mothers' Milk Bank of
Ohio, Grant Medical Center @ Victorian Village Health Center, 1087
Dennison Avenue, Columbus, OH 43201 Phone (614) 544-5906 FAX (614)

Donors complete a phone interview screening and fill out a detailed
written health history with the Ohio milk bank before being
accepted. They get the necessary blood tests done in Wisconsin.

The Mothers' Milk Association of Wisconsin is trying to raise funds
from donations and hopes to be able to start a full milk bank in
Wisconsin in the future. At this point, Wisconsin mothers are
donating lots of milk to the Ohio Milk Bank. Doctors in Wisconsin
are just beginning to prescribe banked milk for babies who need it.
It is shipped back here from Ohio.

See the Mothers' Milk Association of Wisconsin web site at http://
www.freewebs.com/mothersmilkwisconsin/ for more details.

I'm not on the committee for this, but hear their reports at
breastfeeding meetings in our area. A group of dedicated people is
working hard on this effort.
