Judy,
I agree with your post on duramorph.  I had it with my son (C-sec for breech
after 1.5 hrs pushing) and did not have any consciousness altering effects at
all, though the itching was brutal, despite naloxone iv.  Needed no other
analgesia for 4 days, though sleeping was uncomfortable due to stiffness.  I
think that the suck effects we see are more attributable to epidurals in
labor, not to the morphine in the duramorph.  Morphine has less of an effect
on the infant than percacet, which is often given post-c in our (NYC)
hospitals.  I would attribute nursing difficulties in c-sec moms to increased
risk of delayed first nursing....I think that is even more of a factor than
medications.
Just my humble observations.
