i agree we are certainly having a lot to say about conferences, but attendance
is important for those of us needing to learn more. also, demonstrating to the
world that lactation is "about" being baby friendly is important. while it is
true it may be impossible to broadcast sessions outside the conference room,
offer childcare (not useful, IMHO), etc., i think from my own conference
experience that a child play room is crucial. also, preferential rates to
encourage bringing dads or even a grandmother can help spread out the noise
generating units.

and the creature comforts are also important, even though you will get lots of
random and seemingly ridiculous complaints. at one LLLL conference, most rooms
were so hot that people were desperately trying to open windows, doors, etc.,
this wasn't just a little too warm. the hotel staff didn't seem to want to
bring ice water, glasses, etc. and the meals, which attendees were encouraged
to sign up for at one price for all - each meal featured coffee, caffeinated
tea, and water. orange juice was available at the breakfast, but there seemed
to be no awareness at all that children were going to be there, even though
everyone had to pay for children's meal packages.

all those little details rightly make a big difference. what a hard job to
organize something like this!
