I just came back from a fantastic event in our county - the 6th annual
African American Baby Shower - a church/community partnership - followed by
a linking of newly trained Peer Counselors (6 4-hour sessions I gave on
Saturdays in January and February) to pregnant mothers who indicated their
interest in participating in this project: www.mewpeers.org.

HOWEVER, as usual, moms who were not African American came - never turned
away, participated, won prizes, etc. AND a group from a church dedicated to
serving the deaf community came, too, with one mom who was pregnant. She
was from Mexico, and could read my lips when I spoke Spanish but used ASL
(American Sign Language) to reply.and to communicate with the others from
her church.

I used to have but no longer have the videos with closed caption and ASL
from North Carolina - but as they were made a long time ago, I wonder if
they would even be appropriate.

Do any of you have suggestions on resources for pregnant or breastfeeding
deaf moms? I realize now most DVDs have Closed Captioning, but wondered if
you knew of any other resources.
