Dear Lactnetters,

Re: someone (sorry I hit the delete key too fast!) who queried why LLL
doesn't have a better presence, this is MHO:

One of my major sources of frustration in trying to do more, more, more to
bring LLL to the attention of both the public and medical communities has
been that the organization is volunteer based, and that fundraising (income)
is also volunteer based. Trying to get LLL members to participate in more
outreach, fundraising, education, etc., is not only a matter of getting the
venues, but of convincing the volunteers (Leaders and members) that they want
to do this, thereby committing more time than they already do to LLL
(remember they don't get paid!) and that they want to do the work to raise
the money as well (same problem). You really can only do so much as a
volunteer organization. LLL has chosen to make the main focus of its work
the mother to mother connection, and I agree that this is the place with the
most impact and need. It is so frustrating sometimes to see all the things
you could do and the needs you could fill and not be able to marshal the
people and resources to take care of it! But we do what we can and we do
what we do best, working mom to mom and spreading the word one mom and baby
at a time.

Another thought I have about LLL not being at the AAP thing might be that
they simply weren't invited or informed about the event. Anybody know about
whether this might have been the case?
