Dear Lactnet: I have a woman who has asked me about the compatability of
Anafranil (50 mg. daily at bedtime) and breastfeeding. She is due Sept.
1997, and would really like to breastfeed her baby. (LLLI help form via
email--she does not indicate for what condition she was prescribed this.) I
consulted Hale, 1995 edition, p. 31, and found some conflicting information.
He suggests that the manufacturer does not recommend this drug for the
lactating woman, but also says that it is okay per AAP. Dr. Jack and
others--what is your take on this particular medication? Assuming she is
taking this for depression, any preferable meds. for when baby is born? Post
to list, or email me privately at <[log in to unmask]>.
