Ann, you wrote, "... Our hospital is one of several across the
USA,currently participating in a double blind study in regards to HMF. I
have seen the enormous benefits to extremely pretem infants, some weighting
less than one pound and being 22-24 weeks gestation. ..... Ask the mother
of a 24 week gestational infant on their day of discharge if she objected
to the use of HMF?"

It will be of enormous value to know the results of your hospital's double
blind study on HMF, I'm looking forward to hearing what results are found.
Is the control group being fed exclusively on the mother's breastmilk
*without* the fortifier? I've seen one study where the control group was
fed formula, and the intervention group was fed EBM plus fortifier.

Could I also ask for more information on the 22-24 week gestation babies
you mention above? What is the average weight at birth? Are these babies
exclusively breastmilk-fed (plus the HMF)for the whole hospital stay? Do
they receive milk right from the beginning, or are they on drips for a few
days first? How old are they when when the HMF is started? And
stopped? What medical indication is used to determine the need for HMF, or
is it a routine supplement, eg low gain on mother's milk alone, something
else? Do they go on to breastfeed? Age at discharge from the
hospital? Weight at discharge?
