Just catching up on the messages and remembered a reference in the ILCA book
(page 442) to pain threshold which says that the mouth and sucking remain a
source of major pleasure and comfort for children for many years. If they
hurt themselves
1. Buccal stimulation releases oxytocin in the baby
2. Oxytocin increases the pain threshold

Although not based on research, I encourage mums to breastfeed, if possible,
during a painful procedure (like vaccinations) which seems less painful for
baby and less distressing for mum. It would be great to research this!!!
