I just posted a big agreement with Jennifer, but speaking only for myself: 
absolutely nurses have a place in our profession!  I've met many wonderful RN 
IBCLCs.  The point, I think, is that it seems to be IBLCE's goal not to give you 
anything with their certification that your RN certification didn't already give 
you anyway.  So why do you need it?  That's what makes it an expensive 
useless waste of paper for the nurses in our field.

And for those who, like me, are not and do not wish to become nurses, it's a 
waste of paper because it doesn't give us anything we didn't have back in the 
days when we were "just" Jane Doe Nursing Mom With Lots of Experience.

IBLCE sounds to me like an organization trying to avoid getting sued, not 
trying to credential a profession....
