hello everyone on the list
i've just returned from the conference in orlando, where i co-presented a
session entitled "state and local initiatives". i was surprised to learn that
california has a breastfeeding coordinator in their state's department of
health. florida does not. i'm not talking about a WIC breastfeeding
coordinator, but someone who works within the state's public health department
and can then liason with WIC, CMS and various programs and agencies in regard
to breastfeeding.
i'm very curious as to whether or not other states (or countries) have
breastfeeding represented within their state's department of health.
it seems that without a committment from the department of health,
breastfeeding remains a WIC issue without a buy-in from public health. what a
loss.
