Rachel, you raise concern about the baby's weight. I was not alarmed because
I have always gone by the Breastfeeding Answer Book's stance on weight gain.
On page 152 of the latest edition it says to determine the baby's pattern of
weight gain and loss.

Baby was 8 lbs 4 oz at birth
7lbs 9 oz at discharge
7lbs 11 oz at 2 weeks
That would put the lowest weight at 7lbs 9 oz and the baby was back up to
that and 2 more by two weeks. Not a huge gain but back up past the lowest
point.
Lots of wet and dirty diapers each day. Over 5-6 wet AND 5-6 (at least)
dirty every 24 hours.
Baby was gulping within a few seconds of being on the breast. I thought
maybe her flow was too fast and choking the baby but I never thought she
might be starving. I will ask mom some more questions though about output
and baby's mood and sleeping patterns. I did not get that vibe though. Maybe
slow to gain but not still loosing weight and in trouble. They went to the
doctor today, hopefully I will hear tommorow what the pediatrician had to say.

blessings,
micky
