I found that staring and stopping domperidone and other galactagogues
was not a problem.

I had a mother who had two disappointing experiences with pending
adoptions that ended before Baby left the hospital. After each
sadness she stopped galactogogues and pumping to grieve her
loss. These experiences stretched over a year and a half. Then came
the third call of a possibility and she resumed her protocol. Each
time she resumed stimulating her milk supply her body's response was
quicker and more bountiful.

The third promise came true and she went home with a much-cherished
little boy. After everyone settled in she called to say, "I know now
why the first two babies were not available to us. Isaac is our baby!"

With the first two births she visited the hospital and held the
babies in the mother's rooms, with their permission. After each of
these visits the birth mothers chose not to release their
babies. Just shooting from the hip, I suggested that with the next
infant she wait to hold him in private, allowing the birth mother to
grieve her "Goodby" without the adoptive mother's intrusion.

Others of you who have had extended experience with assisting
adoptive mothers may have a differing opinion on this.
