In either case, is it worthwhile to invest in a couple of
other pumps, strategically placed so that everyone who
needs them can have access to them?

please forgive me if I'm missing the point.

Naomi,
I work in a children's hospital so potentially pumps could be needed on any
unit since patients are not divided by age. We have pumps on post partum and
in all the nurseries as well as in the PICU, but nursing babies and children
can be admitted anywhere in the hospital. We have a breastfeeding room with
pumps for staff, but i suspect they also may borrow the rolling pumps when
they don't have time to get to the staff breastfeeding lounge. My point was
not so much about pumps walking, but the fact that putting them on rolling
stands deters theft. We will soon be attaching some kind of device to the
pumps (sort of like the thing that beeps when you try to locate misplaced
keys) so that we will be able to locate them anywhere in the hospital. I
think Debbie pointed out that searching for missing pumps in a large medical
center is time consuming and she's right.
