While not the same exactly, my CA was ductal. I have kept up with a lot of
current treatments through my support group. I would certainly hope
lumpectomy is an option for her. I would also recommend sentinel node
biopsy (which must be done before tumor removal). This eliminates the need
to remove all available lymph nodes if the sentinel one is negative. That
can bypass some nasty complications with lymphedema.

My concern is that even with lumpectomy and radiation I believe most are
currently recommending some chemo as well. Most chemo drugs seem to be
highly questionable if not incompatible with breastfeeding. Of course,
mom's survival is the key in determining the relative risks. Perhaps she
could be pumping the other breast and storing as much milk as possible prior
to any chemo, pumping and dumping to maintain supply and hopefully resuming
after treatment is over.

This has to be a difficult time for this mom even without the possibility of
having to wean. My heart goes out to her.

Winnie
