this type of thing is so so difficult to counter... the "general"
public has NO knowledge of what makes the media run...

it would help if you could locate the origional story and may be get
the "whole" story.

on my refrigerator is an article with the headline: "beast milk murder
case dropped" - it is a truly GREAT headline... the "real" story is a WHOLE
other matter... most people read the headline and the first paragraph...
careful reading tells us that she only bf when she ran out of formula! she
occationally "snorted". as i recall no drugs or metabalites were found in
the child BUT the story that gets passed is that mom taking drugs kills child
breastfeeding...

i suspect that this is the case with the tale you were told... there
are without question many pieces that were "left out" as they would not make
"good copy"

at a conference that I believe some of the lactnet people were
speakers at there was a discussion of co-sleeping and a nurse in the audience
allowed as how it was illegal in their state. told a "wonderful" story of a
mother "overlaying" her child and I believe it was Dr. G who asked the nurse
if she in fact was at the home with the mother when this happened as he a)
did not belive it and b) infacticide has been going on for centuries!

while digressing does not help.. attempt to get the WHOLE story.and
be aware that sensationalism and headline are what sells newspapers... the
truth may well be secondary.
