I would like to know what the LCs on this list know about heating temperature ranges for breastmilk when an infant is in the NICU.

Biomed and the nursing staff at our hospital is concerned because we currently use a warmer which is a lab incubator and fluctuates its heat 4 degrees lower or higher than its setting. It is set at 36-40 celsius, but swings between 34-44.

What protocols are being used at other hospitals, and also what types of equipment/warmers are you using? We are looking at either purchasing different equipment, or finding the perfect way to set the machine to avoid these big swings in temp.

Thanks,
Brenda Phipps, BS, IBCLC
