While Israel is very child-friendly - kids running around at parties and
weddings and restaurants till midnight and mothers feel comfortable bf in
public, one of our local cinemas in the Rav Chen chain suddenly started
charging entrance for babies.
I had a confrontation with the manager and he said it was not healthy for
babies to sit in stuffy cinemas. As smoking is not allowed any more in
cinemas, I could not see any difference in cuddling a baby in a nice warm
dark cinema from taking him to any public place. And anyway, charging
entrance for a baby in arms hardly makes it healthier!
I had on several occasions sat near bf mothers in the cinema and been
totally unaware of their activity until the lights went up. Than I
recognized several of my clients and was happy that these couples could go
out together and enjoy a film without compromising bf.
I avoided that cinema after that and eventually it closed down. I don`t know
whether others in the chain have that policy.
