Hello All,
A mother with 4 month old who is pumping regularly while at work came to me
with a concern about her milk developing a rancid smell and strongly bitter
taste.  Immediately after pumping, the smell and taste of the milk is
normal. Mom carefully collected and stored milk for following day and was
given to childcare provider (sister-in-law).  When warmed to give to infant
sister-in-law noticed a very strong "rancid" smell to the milk, and infant
subsequently refused the milk.  Next day, mother again, carefully collected
milk into sterilized bottles and appropriate storage bags, and child care
provider noticed a repeat of the same "strongly Rancid" odor.  The mother
later tasted the milk and she reported a very bitter, repulsive taste.
History revealed no new medications, vitamins, herbal supplements, dietary
changes, environmental exposure,etc.. This just occurred over last few days.
No prior concerns like this.
Any ideas?  Could this be protein breakdown?  Am at a loss for a reason for
this and an archive search did not provide any clues.
