Dear Sam,
While you don't want your entire article to be "angry words", I really see nothing wrong with allowing *some* of your anger to come through. Since you are lucky enough to be the author of the column, you have a tremendous opportunity to influence others. And, often, others need to see the rage in order to understand how bad a situation is.
You might try writing your very angry column, then let it sit overnight. Then edit really irate sentences to something that shows anger at the situation and at the businesses who helped to bring it on, but doesn't pick on any particular person or group of people.
You have several topics listed about why breastfeeding should be supported and defended. Since you are limited to 600 words per column, perhaps you could split it into two columns labelled "Part I" and "Part II". You could explain why breastfeeding is so important during disasters, pointing out that we never really know when a disaster will hit. Then, the second part could address the obesity and other issues on your mind.
As a LLL Leader, you may have taken communications training that LLL offers. If so, use that to show your anger in a respectful way, but show your anger. Though others may disagree with me, I really believe there is nothing wrong with that.

Subject: Writing letters

I am frustrated at my frustration, my anger, and
my inability to write anything but angry words.

Sincerely,
Heather "Sam" Doak
