Hello
I have mom's permission to post. I need some help with a situation with a
now 7 week old. He was readmitted to the hospital after 2-3 days of green
watery diarrhea, lethargic and dehydrated. Nursing fine until then with
good weight gain. After initial hydration with iv fluids, he improved and
then worsened. The ped, who is breastfeeding friendly, took the baby off
breastmilk and started nutramigen. The loose green stools reduced and
stopped by 48 hours. The baby gained weight quickly on the nutramigen. The
peds diagnosis was gastroenteritis, uti, and milk sensitivity. I was
consulted to help with getting the baby back to the breast as the ped and
the mom desired. Mom had a lot of dairy in her diet. She stopped all
dairy for 5 days then breastfeed at 7:30am. By 2pm the green watery stools
started again. She continues to pump while we figure out what to do next.
We have discussed eliminating soy, peanuts, eggs, and wheat.
My questions are
1. Why did this start at 6 weeks?
2. Is there any way to test the breastmilk for allergens and who can do
this?
3. Could the gastroenteritis have caused more allergens to effect the baby?

She would like to talk with someone who has gone through this problems
before to support her. If anyone knows someone who can call or email her
please email me.
Thank you.
