In response to Winnies' question about subscribing I'm wondering where this
came from. Is your hospital telling you this, or someone else. We had a
Md. LC meeting yesterday and someone mentioned hearing about women losing
their IBCLC standing for "prescribing" Fenugreek. I was surprised to hear
this. We have an outpatient lactation center at our hospital and sell
Mother Love Herbal tinctures as well as GSE, Fenugreek capsules and Blessed
Thistle capsules. I am also clear with moms who come in for a consult what
her options or choices might be. If they choose to use herbal galactogues
we have them available if they choose drugs for yeast, increasing milk, etc.
we outline their choices and refer them to their doctor. Would having them
available to sell be considered prescribing? I have never looked at it this
way. I thought we were doing the women a service by having items that
weren't widely available elsewhere. How do others see this??
Peg Merrill, IBCLC
