>And what do you all tell your moms with kids that are say 5 years and

Yes, you tell them cows' milk is never needed in a child's life. Humans
don't NEED to drink the milk of another species. There are many dietary
sources for calcium and protein other than cows' milk. You can also point
out that in most of the world, children never drink mammal milk after they
are weaned from their mother's breasts -- and that they tend to have less
osteoporosis and fewer fractures in old age than people in industrialized
countries. Why? Three reasons -- high protein diets contribute to
osteoporosis, which is why it's a good idea to get your calcium from low
protein sources, and women in other countries tend to have more children and
breastfeed them longer, which we know strengthens the mother's bones, and
finally people in other countries tend to be much more physically active
than we are in the industrial west, and physically activity keep the bones
strong.

If her 5 year old is allergic to cow's milk and doesn't like soy, give him
water or apple juice or grape juice or tomato juice.
