Just finished my 21 page term paper on this very subject. Wanted to
interject that pertussis vaccine was in use as early as 1914, and the DTP
vaccine came out in 1942. Routine use of the vaccine was suggested by the
CID and AAP in 1944, and by the 1960's many states had passed mandatory
laws for the DTP. Vaccination with DTP was routine during the late
40's and the 1950's.

I have three sources, all with the same info:

Institute of Medicine, _Adverse Effects of Pertussis and Rubella Vaccines_
copyright 1991.

Hoeprich and Jordan, _Infectious Diseases_ copyright 1989.

Coulter and Fisher, _DTP: A Shot in the Dark_ copyright 1985.
