I would expect the mother to have a relatively fast recovery of her milk
supply (1 - 2 wks) if she discontinues the hormonal birth control and is
actively (unrestricted) breastfeeding. The problem I see often, here in the
USA, is that mothers return to part time or full time work about 6 wks
postpartum, which is about the time they start hormonal birth control, if
not sooner. This double whammy can kill her milk supply. Many mothers use
ineffective pumps, as well, or just don't pump often enough, due to the work
situation.

I would recommend that the mother explore ALL possible contributing factors
to low supply with her bf advocate, consider use of galactagogues, and bring
back in a full supply prior to resuming another kind of hormonal birth
control. I would also recommend she consider a non-hormonal method.
