i have been working with a 17 yo mother who is pumping for her almost 9 week
old baby (who was born at 37 wks.)  she was doing fantastic.  exact same
scenerio.  went to her follow up at ob.  she was asked if she had considered
what kind of birth control she wanted.  she said something to the effect of
"well i can't take the pill because i am breastfeeding" and was told that
was absurd and prescribed a low dose estrogen containing pill.  well of
course she began taking it and her supply has plummeted.  this mother was
pumping 5-6 ounces per side in 5-10 minutes of single pumping (because i
only had one of the larger flanges and no chance of getting another soon
(funds)).  baby is now receiving mostly abm and is seriously unhappy about
it (belly aches and vomiting).  mom has quit taking the pill and has
increased pumping again.  we'll see what happens.  i don't know how long
she'll last.  i have been surprised she's done this well.  she so young.
