I am not an IBCLC, and I am purely speaking as an attorney and not in any way connected to LLLI. It seems to me that this could set IBCLCs up for malpractice suits from mothers. Others have already given examples of the type of thing, but I can imagine many scenarios, includings ones where a IBCLC might notice a dangerous condition that the doctor has not. What is a mother is told her breast lump is just a plugged duct? The list could go on and on. As an attorney, I am very disturbed by an attempt to stifle people from getting appropriate care. Would we muzzle a nurse in a hospital who knows a patient is getting the wrong amount of medication?
Melissa Vance in her JD capacity only
