I, too, believe that it is the beginning of colic and unless it is resolved
it leads to the colitis that was covered so well at the ILCA conference.
The irritation from the lactose overload makes the intestines friable and
open to foreign proteins in the mother's milk.

I am working diligently to reduce the oversupplies in the Greater Milwaukee
Area. Truly good latch, keeping an eye on second-breast feeding, taking
steps to reduce the supply at the first sign of a problem, etc.

One mother of a premie was pumping 12 ounces every 2 hours for weeks and
was cheered by the NICU staff. When the poor little one went to the breast
he began serious suffering, which took him many months to resolve. Mom's
milk supply is still sensitive to any frequent intervals but she exercises
caution.
